Set of 16 Portuguese tiles. The set is composed of four times 2 x 2 tile. According to S. Simoes, Azulejaria em Portugal no sec XVII, these tiles can be seen in palace of the Marqueses da Fronteira in Lisbon, dated around 1668. This type of tile was used to cover the interior of large buildings and churches in the 17th century. Tiles have some glaze chips to the sides and the backs of the tiles is cut on all 4 sides; this is usually the case with Portuguese tiles from the 17th century. I have several panels available!
