A beautiful and highly decorative Art Nouveau ceramic tile, dating from circa 1900. The tile features a particularly charming bird and berry design, with a bird in flight surrounded by branches of red berries and stylised green foliage. The composition shows a strong influence of Japonisme, which played an important role in European decorative arts during the Art Nouveau period. The decoration is executed in rich coloured glazes, with finely outlined details in the feathers, leaves and berries. Technique used was cuerda-seca. Made by L&C Hardtmuth, founded in Vienna in 1790, it later moved to Bohemia. The tile has damage to one corner and slight signs of wear.
