This attractive Art Nouveau ceramic tile was produced by Düsseldorfer Tonwarenfabrik Aktien-Gesellschaft (DT-AG), Germany. The design depicts a formal garden entrance with two elegant potted topiary trees framing a stylised gate, a motif that perfectly reflects the geometric elegance and restrained decoration of the Jugendstil movement. Soft shades of blue, green, grey and white combine to create a calm and harmonious composition, while the raised outlines add depth and definition to the scene. The tile remains in very good antique condition, displaying light age-related crazing, a few small spots in the glaze.
